One Band

Sound, breath, and the nervous system. A 60–90 minute exploration of what your voice is, what it does to your body, and where the science actually stops.

60–90 minutesWorkshopOnline or in person

Which parts of this are actually true?

A friend's tuned bowl. A group chat article on humming and immunity. A teacher promising instant results with absolute confidence.

Some of it is real science. Some is good research misquoted. And some was invented to sell you something.

Few workshops draw that line. This one is taught by a doctor who does.

EVERYTHING ELSE PASSES THROUGH ONE BAND
The only spectrum of sound you can make, shape, and aim.

01The workshop

What One Band actually is.

Equal parts evidence and practice. You will hum, breathe, release tension, and make intentionally ridiculous sounds. Never more than about six minutes pass without sound going through your body.

Led by Derrick, a medical doctor and professional voice actor, this session cuts through the noise. He reveals what the data proves, what relies on unverified studies, and where popular claims collapse.

This isn't a lecture on sound. You leave with a practice, and a straight account of what's proven.

02The shape of it

What happens in the room.

Theory seamlessly meets practice. Learn anatomy, then breathe. Review a study, then test it.

Includes vocal craft techniques passed down from master teacher Bill Pepper, ending in complete silence.

You leave with a powerful 60-second daily practice.

You act as your own control group: testing breath without sound, then adding voice. You won't have to take anyone's word for it; you will have your own data.

03The ground it covers

What you'll find out.

  • Anatomy vs. Myth: What your voice connects to, and why real anatomy is narrower than wellness claims suggest.
  • The Power of the Exhale: The single ingredient surviving clinical trials and ancient practice alike.
  • Voice vs. Breath: Exactly what vocalising adds to breathwork, backed by evidence.
  • Fact vs. Fiction: Direct corrections to myths taught weekly in sound and breath circles.

No precise "dose" of sound has been scientifically proven. Derrick highlights small sample sizes in real time; what you adopt is up to you.

04Who comes

Who this is for.

Who it's for

  • The Curious: Anyone wanting to know why sound alters their physical state.
  • Practitioners: Singers, meditators, and breathwork practitioners seeking the underlying physiology.
  • Skeptics: People who love understanding how things work and want a realistic daily habit.

Important note

This is an educational practice, not medical treatment. If you experience vocal pain, persistent hoarseness, or sudden voice changes, please consult a physician.

No experience required. Nothing to prepare. Zero dogma.

05Questions

Before you come.

Do I have to sound in front of others?
No. Everyone sounds simultaneously; online participants remain muted. You are welcome to sit out and observe at any point.
What if I can't sing?
Singing is not required. You will hum, breathe, and make unrefined noise. There is no performance and nothing to get wrong.
Is it safe?
Yes. Techniques are low-risk. Activating exercises are flagged in advance so you can opt out. If you are pregnant or have epilepsy, a fainting history, or uncontrolled hypertension, avoid breath-holding.
Do I need a science background?
No. Concepts are taught from scratch with zero jargon.
Does online work as well as in-person?
Inside your body, yes. The only exception is group resonance; latency prevents true collective acoustic immersion online. We prefer transparency over false promises.
